Belgian NGO delivers 27,000 postcards to prime minister, urges stronger stance on Gaza
'Time for half-measures is over. Belgium cannot be satisfied with that,' Flemish NGO urges

BRUSSELS
A Flemish NGO on Thursday delivered 27,000 postcards to Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever's office, criticizing what it called the government's delayed and insufficient response to the situation in Gaza.
The postcards, collected during a summer campaign by 11.11.11 volunteers -- a coalition of NGOs, unions, movements, and solidarity groups -- carried the message: "Genocide doesn’t take a vacation," local media reported.
Activists placed mailbags symbolically and stretched an 80-meter (262-foot) red ribbon along Brussels Park, near the prime minister's office.
"While the federal government's agreement on Belgium's position is a step in the right direction, it is only the bare minimum," the organization said.
"The time for half-measures is over. The International Court of Justice has already clearly stated what is legally required. Belgium cannot be satisfied with that," Els Hertogen, the organization's director, added.
The group vowed to continue applying pressure "in parliament and on the streets" until the bombing, blockade, and famine in Gaza end.
The ongoing war in Gaza has entered its 700th day on Friday, with Israel having killed at least 64,300 Palestinians. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
