Barcelona renews deal with Spanish right-back Roberto until 2024

Barcelona and Sergi Roberto reached an agreement Friday to extend his contract through 2024.

Barcelona said a buyout clause has been set at €400 million ($425 million).

The Spanish club described Roberto as "an example of patience as a virtue," adding, "Originally an attacking midfielder, under different coaches he has played in a wide range of positions, always delivering an impeccable service."

Roberto spent 17 years wearing the Barca jersey and made his debut in a Copa del Rey match against Ceuta on Nov. 10, 2010.

The 31-year-old right back helped Barca win the 2011 and 2015 UEFA Champions League titles and the 2016 Super Cup trophy.
