A baby formula recall that initially involved Swiss food group Nestle has reportedly widened to include the French companies Danone and Lactalis, according to Swissinfo.

The online news outlet reported Wednesday that Lactalis removed six batches of its Picot-brand baby formula from the transalpine market after cereulide was found in an ingredient supplied by an outside source.

Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain bacteria and can trigger symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, it said.

The toxin was behind the recall of multiple Nestle baby food products in recent weeks.

The report said that in Switzerland, the dairy company Hochdorf also pulled 10,000 packs of goat milk powder sold under the Bimbosan label.

Swissinfo said the Singapore Food Authority ordered the removal of Dumex baby formula from sale Saturday after cereulide was reportedly detected in two products. Danone acquired the Dumex brand in 2022.

The report said the affected Danone products may contain raw materials from the same supplier linked to the Nestle recall. In December and early January, sales of certain Nestlé baby food products were already suspended in Singapore and 60 other countries.

Nestle said the move marked the largest preventive recall in the company’s history.

French authorities are also examining whether the contamination could be connected to the death of a newborn, although no link has been confirmed.

In a video message released last week, Nestle CEO Philipp Navratil apologized to parents and caregivers for the uncertainty caused.
