LONDON

One person was killed and dozens of others injured after a train accident took place on Tuesday near Barcelona, two days after another deadly train collision in southern Spain.

A train derailed after struck a retaining wall that fell onto the tracks due to heavy rain near Barcelona, Spanish daily El Pais reported citing authorities.

The train driver, a 28-year-old man from Seville, died in the accident, while 37 people were injured including five in serious condition.

This became the second train accident in Spain in two days after 42 people were killed in a high-speed train collision near Adamuz in the southern Cordoba province on Sunday.

The Catalan government said that Rodalies commuter rail service will be suspended "until reports confirm the entire network is safe."

Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts continue to find more than 40 missing passengers in the high-speed train collision.

On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared three days of mourning after the deadly accident, killing at least 42 people as the Railway Accident Investigation Committee has reportedly launched a probe.
