Belarus, Moldova, Armenia and Georgia on Monday congratulated opposition leader Peter Magyar and his party, Tisza, after their victory in Hungary’s parliamentary elections, signaling readiness to continue cooperation with Budapest.
Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko congratulated Magyar and said “traditions of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation that have developed over many years between Minsk and Budapest must continue.”
He expressed hope that Hungary’s “strong voice” on the international stage will continue to be expressed in a spirit of pragmatism, commitment to maintaining universal security, and respect for all peoples.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said Chisinau looks forward to accelerating partnership with Hungary, “building on the friendship that unites our people,” and to working together for a stronger, more united and resilient Europe.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze congratulated Magyar and his party while thanking defeated longtime Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his team “for their outstanding and steadfast support of Georgia’s national interests and the Georgian people over the years.”
“Georgia and Hungary are bound by a long history of friendship and partnership, which will undoubtedly continue,” he said on the US social media platform X.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated Magyar and the Hungarian people on the election victory.
“These democratic elections reflect the will of the Hungarian people & the future vision of the country,” he wrote on X.
According to Hungary’s National Election Office, the opposition Tisza Party led by Magyar won 69.35% of the vote and 138 seats, with 98.94% of ballots counted.
