BELGRADE, Serbia

Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital Sarajevo has been ranked the city with the world's most polluted air, according to figures from air quality technology firm IQAir released Sunday.

According to the Swiss firm’s data, Sarajevo air pollution on Sunday was measured at 195, or 28.2 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.

Sarajevo, however, is not the only city in the Western Balkans to suffer from poor air quality. Croatia's capital Zagreb was also suffering from an air pollution level of 158.

Air pollution accounts for a large number of premature deaths, poor health outcomes, and lower educational test scores, according to numerous studies.
