Danish Vestas opened a new engineering design center in Portugal, the company announced on Thursday.
The wind energy company said that the new center, which is located in Portugal's second largest city, Porto, will develop Vestas' core technology and strengthen its research and development capabilities.
The new center is part of Vestas’ existing research and development setup, which includes sites in the U.K., Norway, Germany, India and the company headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark.
Vestas has begun recruiting for the new center, which is expected to employ at least 80 people by the end of 2017 and several hundred engineers when fully ramped up in 2020.
"With this investment we underline our technology leadership and ambition to lower the cost of energy faster than anyone in wind energy," said Executive Vice President, Anders Vedel.
