US commercial crude oil inventories decreased by 0.1% in the week ending Sept. 4, according to data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Thursday.
Inventories fell by about 400,000 barrels to 424.1 million barrels, while market expectations forecast a decrease of around 1.4 million barrels.
Strategic petroleum reserves, excluded from commercial crude stocks, also decreased by about 1.2 million barrels to 285.4 million barrels.
Over the same period, gasoline inventories increased by approximately 1.3 million barrels to 206.9 million barrels.
- Crude output increases
EIA data showed that US crude oil production rose by 85,000 barrels per day (bpd) to approximately 13.95 million bpd in the week ending Sept. 4.
US crude oil imports increased by around 53,000 bpd to 6.82 million bpd, while exports fell by about 1.07 million bpd to 3.42 million bpd over the same period.
In its Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) released on Sept. 9, the EIA forecast that US crude oil output would average 13.83 million bpd in 2026.
