ISTANBUL (AA) – Chairman of Russian search engine Yandex in Turkey Mehmet Ali Yalcindag stated their main goal in 2014 was to extend directly into the market in Turkey with the newly developed ‘communications strategy.’

Since one and half years, Yandex Turkey has been focused on its promotion and developing the perception of the Turkish community on what Yandex was, Yalcindag told AA in an exclusive interview and noted they would increase their current marketshare of 3-4 percentage at the beginning of 2014.

Saying Yandex had started its first international expansion with Turkey, Yalcindag stressed it was a result of Turkey’s stability in regional position, economy, politics and its young population and added they would conduct their competition with Google within the framework of the new ‘communications strategy.’

“We attach importance to 2014 and call on all the internet users in Turkey to search with Yandex for once,” Yalcindag said.

Yalcindag also reminded their ‘Yandex Islands’ project, introduced firstly in Turkey in September, aimed to give the opportunity to the users for a fast and direct result with “nearly 200-250 companies’ islands at the end of 2013.”

Commenting also on the recent Istanbul-based Webit congress, dubbed as the Olympics of digital technology and telecommunication, Yalcindag stated the number of international congresses in Istanbul would increase day by day due to the regional position, its easy access to the city, climate and comfort for each visitor.

The Russian internet search provider Yandex was created in 1993 as a department developing search technologies in CompTek International, a network and telecom equipment distributor in Russia. In 1997 the Yandex web search service was launched, becoming a standalone company in 2000.

In 2011 Yandex opened an office in Istanbul (Turkey) along with the launch of a web portal for Turkey.
