India’s wholesale price index (WPI) rose 15.08% year-on-year in April, hitting a historic high.

According to official provisional data late Tuesday, the wholesale price index has been climbing by double-digit figures for the last 13 months in a row.

The increase stemmed from rises in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, crude petroleum, natural gas, food articles, non-food articles, food products, and chemicals.

WPI inflation in April 2021 was 10.74%.

The country's annual inflation rate also hit 7.79% in April, an eight-year high.
