Unemployment in the eurozone dropped to 6.2% in April from 6.3% in March, the EU's statistical office said Tuesday.

The number of jobless fell 207,000 from the prior month to 10.68 million in the single currency zone, Eurostat data showed.

EU-wide unemployment, which includes countries that are in the bloc but do not use its common currency, was stable at 5.9% in April.

Some 12.9 million people in the EU were jobless in April, marking a decline of 188,000 from a month earlier.

A total of 2.859 million young persons (under 25) were jobless in the EU, including 2.272 million in the eurozone.

In April, the youth unemployment rate dropped to 14.4% in the euro area and 14.8% in the EU.

The eurozone/euro area, or EA20, represents member states that use the bloc's single currency, the euro, while the EU27 includes all member nations.
