ISTANBUL

Around 1.7 million houses were sold in Türkiye last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Tuesday.

The number of house sales rose 14.3% year-on-year, according to official figures.

Istanbul accounted for the largest share with 280,262 units sold, followed by the capital Ankara with 152,534 and the Aegean city of Izmir with 96,998.

Home sales financed through mortgage loans totaled 236,668 in 2025, marking a 49.3% increase compared to 2024.

Of the total, 540,786 were newly built homes, while 1.15 million were second-hand properties.

Sales to foreign buyers reached 21,535 units last year, down 9.4% year-on-year. By nationality, the highest number of purchases was made by Russian citizens with 3,649 homes, followed by Iranians with 1,878 and Ukrainians with 1,541.

In December alone, 254,777 houses were sold nationwide, representing a 19.8% annual increase.
