Turkey’s leading airport operator, TAV Airports, announced on Wednesday that its duty free company ATU begins operations at Salalah Airport in Oman.

ATU, a joint venture between TAV Airports and Unifree Duty Free/Gebr. Heinemann, won the ten-year tender held in 2014 to operate a duty free shop at Salalah Airport.

"ATU Duty Free began providing services to the passengers with a 727 square meter duty free shop located on the departure floor and another 117 square meter duty free store on the arrival floor within Salalah Airport," the company said in a statement.

The company also said that it will operate food and beverage areas at the terminal.

Salalah is an important port in the Middle East with capacity for 6 million passengers. "The rapid increase in the number of passengers strengthened our belief in the potential of the market in Oman," said Ersan Arcan, General Manager of ATU. "We have also transferred the know-how of BTA, to this project." BTA is a food and beverage company affiliated to TAV Airports.

"Thanks to our strong supply chain and highly professional logistics organization, we can provide brand diversity and product stability simultaneously," Arcan said.
