Turkish stock market closes lower on Friday

ANKARA

Turkiye's benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,372.35 points on Friday, with daily loss of 0.89%.

Starting the day at 2,389.71 points, the index fell 21.26 points from Wednesday's close of 2,393.61. Borsa Istanbul remained closed on Thursday as Turkiye observed the Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day.

The index's lowest value during the day was 2,372.35 points, while its highest was 2,407.26.

Its total market value was almost 1.93 trillion Turkish liras ($121 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 35.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

During the final transaction day of the week, 28 stocks on the index rose and 72 fell, compared to Wednesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, defense company Aselsan and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Real estate investment trust Nurol Gayrimenkul was the best performer of the day, with its shares up 9.93%, while automobile producer Tofas​​​​​​​ saw the biggest drop, 3.97%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,835.55 by market close, up from $1,820.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 0.28% to $112.34 per barrel as of 6.37 p.m. local time (1537GMT).
