Turkish stock exchange closes Wednesday with gains

ANKARA

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,951.17 points on Wednesday, up 0.31% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,951.17 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index rose 6.10 points from Tuesday’s close of 1,945.07 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,945.97 points and the daily high was 1,975.25, with 51 stocks rising, 42 falling, and seven flat compared to the previous close.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.56 trillion Turkish liras (some $115.7 billion) by market close, while the daily trading volume was 23.5 billion liras ($1.7 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron and steel producer Kardemir, and petrochemical firm Petkim.

Budget airline Pegasus was the best performer of the day, with its shares up 6.51%, while stocks of IT company Indeks Bilgisayar saw the sharpest drop of 3.40%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,845.00 by market close, up from $1,839.80.

The price of Brent crude oil was at $88.60 per barrel with a 1.63% gain as of 5.50 p.m. local time (1450GMT).
