ANKARA

Turkish weapons manufacturer Roketsan has signed Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding with MBDA Deutschland GmbH to explore opportunities in military weapons systems.

Under the terms of the agreement signed at the ILA Berlin Air Show the two companies will initiate the exchange of business and technical information for a guided weapon system based on a 70mm rocket concept for the German UH-Tiger gunship helicopter. Both companies aim to provide a solution to an expected German Army requirement for this equipment.

Thomas Homberg, MBDA Deutschland GmbH managing director said: "We have been impressed by Roketsan’s achievements so far and we are convinced that together we can offer an added value to the German customer’s operational capabilities."

Selcuk Yasar, Roketsan chief executive and president, said: "We believe that with this cooperation we will be able to offer to the German customer an enhanced weapon system by bringing the capabilities of [Roketsan's] Cirit 2.75 Laser Guided Missile and MBDA Deutschland GmbH’s proven expertise to platform weapon management systems. We hope the result of this initiative will lead to a broader business cooperation in the future between the two companies."
