Turkey's Borsa Istanbul surges 2.95% at close

ANKARA 

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the midweek rising 2.95% to close at 1,124.71 points on Wednesday.

After starting at 1,099.41 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 32.25 points from 1,092.46 points at Tuesday's close.

On Wednesday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,099.41 and 1,125.80 points -- 82 stocks on the index rose, 12 fell, and six were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 824.3 billion Turkish liras ($111.9 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 19.9 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

Shares of energy giant Tupras, real estate investment trust Emlak Konut and glass manufacturer Sise Cam saw the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of energy company Ipek Dogal Enerji registered the best performance, up 9.97%, while shares of Turkey's leading tractor producer Turk Traktor suffered the most, losing 3.5%.

One ounce of gold sold for $1,988.00 by market close, down from $2,008.50, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent oil was $45.05 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday, with a daily range from $44.81 to $45.30.
