Turkey's Borsa Istanbul down at close

BIST 100 index sees 0.36-pct decline, while Turkish lira gains value against foreign currencies

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index dropped by 0.36 percent to close at 91,526.90 points on Monday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 92,138.85 points and lost 333.85 points from Friday's close of 91,860.75 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 91,515.62 and 92,435.66 points, while 37 stocks on the index were on the rise, 58 were on the decline, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The total market value of listed shares on the BIST 100 was around 591.4 billion Turkish liras ($112.1 billion) at the close, and the daily trading volume was 3.1 billion Turkish liras ($592.9 million).

Shares of energy company Isiklar climbed the most, up 7.89 percent, while stocks of furniture manufacturer Dogtas Kelebek performed the worst, falling 8.57 percent.

The most-traded stocks were national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, leading defense company Aselsan, iron/steel producer Kardemir, and telecommunication company Turk Telekom.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2950 at close, down from Friday's close of 5.3010.

The euro/lira rate also fell at close; 6.0520 versus 6.0630 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.7290 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.7140 at close on Friday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,250.25 by market close, down from $1,260.00 the previous week.

The price of Brent crude oil stood at $53.41 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday, versus $53.45 at previous close.
