The number of bovine animals --including cattle and buffalo-- reached 17.3 million heads in June, up 16.9 percent during the 12-month period, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said.

The total number of ovine animals rose 6.2 percent over the same period, reaching 47.4 million heads, including 36.2 million sheep and 11.2 million goats.

TurkStat also said that there were 290,000 heads of donkey, horses, mules, camels, and pigs in Turkey as of June.

Meanwhile, the number of poultry animals -- chickens, turkeys, ducks, and goose -- reached nearly 346 million heads, down from 1.4 percent from June 2017.
