Over 53,000 vehicles registered last month, figure nearly 44% less than registrations in January

ANKARA 

The number of motor vehicle registrations in Turkey surged 56.2% year-on-year in February, the country's statistics authority announced on Monday.

A total of 53,135 first- and second-hand vehicles were registered last month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

Compared to January this year, motor vehicle registrations were down by 43.8%.

"The total number of road motor vehicles registered by the end of February was 23,293,489 (nearly 23.3 million)," TurkStat said.

Of all vehicles registered in February, 60.3% were automobiles, 15.2% motorcycles, and 13.9% were small trucks.

In terms of brands, 15.6% were Renault vehicles, 11.9% were Fiat, and 8.3% were Volkswagen.

The number of vehicles registered in January and February this year stands at 147,675, significantly higher than the 100,511 registered during the corresponding two-month period in 2019.
