The number of job openings in the US, as reported via the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), rose to 6.95 million in January, exceeding market expectations, the US Department of Labor stated on Friday.
According to the data, the number of job openings in the country rose by 396,000 from the previous month.
The number of job openings, which exceeded market expectations, was projected to be 6.76 million during this period.
The December 2025 data for job openings was recorded at 6.55 million.
During this period, the number of job openings increased in the finance and insurance sectors.
The number of hires rose by 22,000 to 5.29 million during the same period.
Meanwhile, the number of people leaving their jobs—including those who resigned or were laid off—decreased by 98,000 to 5.1 million during this period.
