Global crude steel production fell 4.6% year-on-year to 140.1 million tons in November, as production in China dropped 10.9%, according to data released by the World Steel Association on Tuesday.

Last month, China, the world's largest steel producer, saw its production fall to 69.9 million tons, the data showed.

Japan's production decline 1.6% to 6.8 million tons in November, while US production jumped 8.5% to 6.8 million tons.

Germany's production slipped 2.6% to 2.8 million tons in November, while South Korea's production was also down 4.8% to 5 million tons.

Meanwhile, Türkiye's crude steel production climbed 10% on an annual basis in November to 3.3 million tons.

In November, steel production in Brazil rose 0.7% to 2.8 million tons, while in Iran it rose 9.2% to 3.4 million tons.

On the other hand, global crude steel production this January-November fell 2% compared to the same period of 2024 to 1.662 billion tons.

During the same period, China's production dropped 4% to 891.7 million tons, following China's announcement that it would introduce licenses for steel exports.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry announced on Dec. 12 that it plans to implement a licensing system to regulate steel exports starting in 2026, in a move seen as a response to criticism abroad, particularly in Europe, of cheap steel from China and the country's overcapacity.
