Dow Jones hits new record; S&P 500, Nasdaq gain

ANKARA

The Dow Jones hit a new record high level on Monday shortly after opening bell in the US, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were in the positive territory.

The blue-chip Dow Jones was up 166 points, or 0.46%, to 36,494 at 9.58 a.m. EDT after hitting an all-time high of 36,565.73 points.

The S&P 500 rose eight points, or 0.2%, to 4,707 points, just seven points shy of its all-time high of 4,714.92. It was running to its eighth consecutive daily increase.

The Nasdaq added 27 points, or 0.17%, to 15,999.10. The tech-heavy index is now heading for its eleventh daily gain in a row.

Despite a positive outlook, the VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was slightly up 0.9% to 16.63. The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 1.1% to 1.469%.

The US dollar index, on the other hand, was down 0.2% to 94.12.

Oil prices were up with international benchmark Brent crude trading at $83.30 per barrel -- a 0.7% gain. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate rose 0.66% to $81.81 a barrel.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.24% to $1,822 per ounce and silver increasing 0.74% to $24.34.

Price of Bitcoin was trading at $65.550 for a 6% daily gain at the time.
