Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held a "productive" call Thursday with US President Donald Trump, focusing on trade, security and long-term peace in Europe.
"Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, had a productive and wide-ranging conversation with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump," according to a statement by the Prime Minister's office.
Carney and Trump addressed the situation in Ukraine, emphasizing cooperation to support stability and security in the region.
"The leaders discussed how to build on the President's leadership to support long-term peace and security for Ukraine and Europe," it said.
The statement indicated that they addressed "current trade challenges, opportunities, and shared priorities in a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S."
"The leaders agreed to reconvene shortly," it noted.
The White House noted that the talks were about trade.
