Turkish director’s film scoops three awards in Italy

Turkish director Ferzan Ozpetek’s latest film Fasten Your Seat Belts - Kemerlerinizi Baglayiniz - has won three awards at Italy’s prestigious Nastri d’Argento.

The leading actress of the Rome-based director’s film, Kasia Smutniak, was awarded Best Actress while Paola Minaccioni was awarded Best Supporting Actress, at the ceremony on Italy’s Sicily Island on Friday.

The 100-minute movie’s casting director, Pino Pellegrino, received the Best Casting Director award, which was given for the first time this year.

The 55-year-old director tells the love story of two opposite characters in the film.

The Nastro d’Argento - or Silver Ribbon - is the second-oldest film award ceremony in the word after the Academy Awards.

The choices are made by the Italian association of film critics, The National Syndicate of Italian Film Journalists.

II Capitale Umano, directed by Paolo Vrzi, received six awards including, Best Film, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Décor, Best Film Editing and Best Sound.
