Turkey's President received Nobel laureate Chinese writer Guan Moye, better known by the pen name Mo Yan, on Friday, said a statement on the presidency's official website.

"Moy has contributed to world literature with his works, which have been translated into Turkish and attract great attention from Turkish readers," Abdullah Gul said during the meeting at Cankaya Palace.

Relations between Turkey and China have a deep-rooted past, said Gul, expressing his pleasure over the countries' cooperation in cultural matters.

"Interest in the Turkish people and culture is increasing in China," Guan Moye stated.

He noted that he was influenced by the preservation of the historic and cultural fabric of Istanbul, which has hosted many civilizations throughout history.

Mo was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012 and is famous for the hallucinatory realism of his epic historical novels, which include "Red Sorghum Clan" and "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out."
