ISTANBUL

Philippa Charlotte “Pippa” Middleton took part in the 26th Samsung Bosphorus cross continental swimming race in Istanbul on Sunday, where she swam across from the Asian side of Istanbul to the European side.

Pippa is an English socialite, the younger sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - the wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

Middleton, who participates in many annual sporting events world-wide, said the Samsung Bosphorus cross continental swimming race was “really well organized and something completely different from what I have done before”.

The Bosphorus cross continental races organized since 1989 by the National Olympic Committee of Turkey has become a world renowned event with participants from nearly fifty countries taking part every year.

The 6.7 km long race, which starts at Kanlica, the Asian district of Istanbul and ends at Kurucesme on the European coast, is a single swimming race from one continent to the other - from Asia to Europe.

“The hardest thing is finding the line to make sure you have the right sighting, and that you finished”, Pippa said adding “the rest was great fun”.
