- Rock legend Morrissey’s postponed concert to take place in Istanbul
U.K. singer Morrissey’s postponed concert has been rescheduled for Istanbul’s Volkswagen Arena on Dec. 17.
The rock legend will be perform his latest single “Istanbul,” for the first time in the Queen of Cities as part of his European tour.
The 54-year-old singer released “Istanbul” and a spoken-word video for the song on last May.
The track, about a father’s search for his lost son on Istanbul’s streets, was the first single from his latest album “World Peace Is None of Your Business”, which was released last July.
Meat products’ sale or consumption will not be permitted in and around the concert at the request of the former frontman of The Smiths – who is a well-known strict vegetarian.
The British legend, famous for provoking controversy in 1980s England with songs such as “Meat Is Murder” and “The Queen Is Dead” previously took to the stage in Istanbul in 2012.

- South Korean filmmaker’s latest movie to hit Turkish theaters
South Korean filmmaker and screenwriter Kim Ki Duk’s latest movie “One On One” will hit Turkish theaters on Dec. 12.
The 50-year-old director’s movie is another revenge story like his 2012 feature “Pieta.”
The 122-minute drama tells the story of a chase in which members of a terrorist organization try to hunt down seven suspects of a high school teenager’s murder, according to film critic website imdb.com.
During the Busan International Film Festival on Oct., the film director was quoted by the Korea Times as saying: “The film is based on an incident that took place in recent years menacing democratic rights, but nobody – no film critic or journalist – has written a film review mentioning it.”

- Norwegian singer comes to Istanbul
Norwegian-born indie singer Ane Brun will perform at Istanbul’s Kucukciftlik Park on Dec. 12.
The 38-year-old will take the stage in Istanbul for the third time after her two gigs in Turkey’s largest city in 2011 and 2013.
A songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, Brun recorded her debut album “Spending Time With Morgan” in 2002. Her 2005 album “Temporary Dive” was awarded “Best Female Artist” at Norway’s Grammy Awards.
In 2013 Brun released a catalogue album called “Songs 2003-2013” to mark her 10 years in the music scene.

-Istanbul commemorates Sufi mystic Rumi
Turkey’s Culture Ministry and Istanbul Municipality are organizing a ceremony to commemorate the death of a 13th century Sufi mystic Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi on Dec. 13 at Sinan Erdem Sport Complex in Istanbul.
The ceremony will take place in Istanbul for the third time.
Turkish singers Samiz Ozen, Yavuz Bingol, Mustafa Ceceli and Yusuf Guney also will take to the stage.
Rumi is commemorated in Turkey every year during Dec. The main ceremony takes place in the central Anatolian province of Konya, where he is buried, and attracts more than 60,000 visitors every year.

- Grammy-winning violinist comes to Turkey.
American violinist Joshua Bell will perform at Istanbul’s Zorlu Performance Center on Dec. 16.
The Grammy-winning violinist has recorded more than 40 CDs since his first LP recording at the age of 18, according to his official website.
He performs using a 1713 Huberman Stradivarius violin and uses a late 18th century French bow by Francois Tourte.
He is also well-known after a Washington Post experiment where he played as a busker at a metro station in the U.S. capital. More than 1,000 people passed by during his 45-minutes performance and only one of them recognized him.
