Türkiye initiates to develop policies for human rights protection mechanisms within Turkic States bloc

The Association of Judicial Unity and Sakarya University have signed a cooperation protocol to develop policies for human rights protection mechanisms for the Organization of Turkic States.

According to the association, the project, which is being prepared by the Department of International Law at Sakarya University's Faculty of Law, aims to establish an original human rights framework and mechanism based on the Turkic nations' shared cultural and historical heritage.

The initiative aims to leverage Türkiye’s legal expertise, legislative infrastructure, and institutional capacity gained through years of international engagement in line with the vision of a “Fairer World.”

The project intends to carry out an array of activities with the participation of expert academics, policymakers, and practitioners, with the goal of creating an effective platform for consultation among Turkic states.

Birol Kirmaz, president of the Judicial Unity Association and senior adviser to the Justice Ministry, underlined that their goal is to protect the rights and interests of Turkic peoples through a joint legal mechanism “in the spirit of unity in language, thought, and action.”

“With the experience and expertise of the Turkish judiciary, the Judicial Unity Association will contribute to the project’s goals. Joint evaluations by academics, legal practitioners, and decision-makers will contribute to legal thought and add value to the future of the Turkic world,” Kirmaz added.
