A Turkish aid agency Friday sent medical aid to Afghanistan to help the country fight COVID-19.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency's (TIKA) Afghanistan office in Kabul facilitated the process.

The two countries have strong historical, cultural and religious ties, and Turkey has always stood with Afghanistan, said Afghanistan's Deputy Health Minister Abdul Kadir in a statement.

Kadir thanked Turkey for its contributions to Afghanistan's development.

As part of the fight against COVID-19, the agency delivered to Afghanistan's Health Ministry the second batch of aid as well, said Zuhtu Cal, TIKA's coordinator in the Afghan capital Kabul.

In recent months, the Turkish aid agency has sent medical aid and equipment to Afghanistan.

“Turkey will always continue to stand with Afghanistan and contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries,” Cal added.
