Trump says he will meet China's Xi 'in four weeks,' discuss soybeans

WASHINGTON

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that soybeans will be a key agenda item during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, set to take place "in four weeks."

"I’ll be meeting with President Xi, of China, in four weeks, and Soybeans will be a major topic of discussion," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump pledged support for American soybean farmers, blaming China for halting agricultural purchases.

"The Soybean Farmers of our Country are being hurt because China is, for 'negotiating' reasons only, not buying," he said.

The president promised that his administration would use a portion of the revenue collected from tariffs on Chinese imports to assist struggling farmers.

"We’ve made so much money on Tariffs, that we are going to take a small portion of that money, and help our Farmers. I will never let our farmers down," he added.
