A lawmaker from South Korea's ruling party was shifted to hospital after being attacked by an unidentified assailant on Thursday, local media reported.

Lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin from People Power Party sustained a head injury after being attacked by the assailant in the southern Seoul district of Gangnam, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported, citing government officials.

Bae was transported to Soonchunhyang University Hospital with her head bleeding, but her injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect was arrested by police in Gangnam.

This is the second attack on lawmakers in less than a month.
