South Korea begins dismantling loudspeakers along border with North Korea
Move aimed at reducing inter-Korean tensions comes after South Korean president ordered suspension of loudspeaker broadcasts in June

South Korea’s military began dismantling propaganda loudspeakers installed along the border with North Korea on Monday, in a move aimed at reducing inter-Korean tensions, said the Defense Ministry.
The move comes less than two months after President Lee Jae Myung ordered the suspension of loudspeaker broadcasts in front-line areas as part of efforts to improve ties with North Korea, Yonhap News Agency reported.
"It is a practical measure that can help ease inter-Korean tensions without affecting the military's readiness posture," the ministry said in a statement.
There was no immediate reaction from Pyongyang to the move.
South Korea resumed the loudspeaker campaign for the first time in six years in June last year in response to North Korea’s repeated launch of trash-carrying balloons across the heavily fortified border.
