ISTANBUL

South Korea's Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a suspended prison sentence for twin sisters who cheated in high school exams, according to local media.

The court confirmed a one-year prison term, suspended for three years, for the twins who illegally accessed exam answers via their father, a teacher at their school, in Seoul between 2017 and 2018, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Initially sentenced to 18 months suspended for three years by a district court, the sisters saw their sentence reduced to one year on appeal.

The Supreme Court maintained this decision on Tuesday, finding no legal errors in the previous ruling.

The sisters had denied the obstruction charges throughout their trial.

Their father, identified only by his surname Hyun under South Korean privacy laws, received a three-year prison sentence in March 2020 for his role in the cheating scheme.
