Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday spoke over the phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the latest situation in the Middle East, the Kremlin said.

During their conversation, both Putin and Raisi agreed that the unresolved Palestine-Israel conflict is the reason for the current escalation in the region, a Kremlin statement said.

The two leaders also spoke in detail about the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East after the Israeli strike on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus, the statement added.

The Iranian president said that his country has no interest in further escalation.

Putin, for his part, expressed hope that Iran and Israel will show restraint and will not allow a new round of confrontation, the statement said.

The two presidents called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, addressing the humanitarian needs and creating conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement of the crisis, it said.

They also agreed to further develop cooperation in various fields, including the implementation of infrastructure projects.
