Russia extended its condolences to the families of the victims of a deadly car-ramming attack in the US that killed and injured dozens in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

“We express our condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” the Russian Embassy in the US said in a statement on Wednesday.

Expressing that Russia’s Consulate General in Houston is in contact with the police in New Orleans, the statement said there were no Russian citizens involved in the incident, based on available information.

At least 15 people were killed and over 30 others were injured when a truck plowed through the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans around 3.15 a.m. (0915GMT) Wednesday morning.

The FBI identified the suspect accused of ramming the truck into New Year's partygoers as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen and Army veteran.
