Putin signs order assigning deputy chief of staff to lead Russia’s delegation at G20 summit

ISTANBUL

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday signed an order assigning the deputy head of the country’s presidential administration to lead Moscow’s delegation at an upcoming summit of the Group of 20 in South Africa.

The order, published on the government portal, assigned Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Maxim Oreshkin to lead Russia’s delegation in the South African city of Johannesburg later this month, where the 20th summit of the G20 will take place on Nov. 22-23.

According to the document, the delegation will also include Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Pankin, Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov, and Russia's G20 Sherpa Svetlana Lukash.

The Kremlin announced late October that Putin would not personally attend the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, but noted Moscow will be represented at the event at a high level.

US President Donald Trump also confirmed that he would not be attending the summit as he said earlier in September that Vice President JD Vance would be heading to South Africa on behalf of Washington instead.

On Monday, Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested during an address in Helsinki that Putin and Trump could meet again at the G20 summit in Johannesburg, according to the public broadcaster Yle.

The two presidents last met in August in the US state of Alaska, while a planned Budapest summit on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war was cancelled last month.
