ISTANBUL
Three Pakistani security personnel were killed and 18 others were injured on Monday as a result of a terrorist attack in northwestern Pakistan, state media reported.
The attack -- which took place in the Hangu district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, close to Afghanistan border -- was reportedly repelled by security forces, and three security personnel died in the process, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the terrorist attack on the Federal Reserve Police.
A regional police officer told the local daily Dawn that the attack also injured 18 others, adding that the attackers escaped with the bodies of their accomplices.
The three deceased soldiers were identified as Naik Sadiq Hussain, Constable Abdul Ghaffar, and Constable Zewar Khan.
“The sacrifices of our martyrs will never go in vain,” the interior minister also said, noting that Pakistan stands united behind its security forces in fighting terrorism.
