Pakistan condemns Israeli military actions in Lebanon, urges international action
Foreign Ministry says attacks violate Lebanese sovereignty, demands Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territory
KARACHI, Pakistan
Pakistan on Tuesday condemned Israel’s military actions in Lebanon as violations of international law.
The Foreign Ministry said it “condemns in the strongest terms Israel’s continued military aggression against Lebanon,” which it said has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and the displacement of nearly half a million people.
The statement said Israeli actions were undermining efforts by the Lebanese government to maintain peace and stability, and risk worsening humanitarian and security conditions in the region.
Pakistan urged the international community to intervene to stop indiscriminate attacks on civilians and violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
Islamabad also demanded Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory.
Nearly 700,000 people have been displaced across Lebanon in a little more than a week as the conflict escalates, the UN said Tuesday.
Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 400 victims and displaced thousands across Lebanon since March 2, amid cross-border attacks with Hezbollah.
The escalation flared since Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, to date killing more than 1,200 victims, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
