Kyrgyzstan on Monday said it handed an official note to Russia over mass detention of its citizens in Moscow last week.

A meeting was held between Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev and Russian Ambassador Sergey Vakunov, said a Foreign Ministry statement.

The statement said the note contained a request to provide information on the grounds for the detention and the use of force against its citizens.

It also requested the Russian side “to take appropriate measures against representatives of law enforcement agencies” if the use of force is unjustified.

“A request was expressed to take effective measures to protect the rights of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and prevent a similar situation in the future, which could damage the Kyrgyz-Russian relations of alliance and strategic partnership,” the statement said.

Moscow police raided a bathhouse in Moscow last week, arresting 24 Kyrgyz citizens. Twenty of them were later released while four of them were to be deported, according to Kyrgyzstan’s Labor, Social Security and Migration Ministry.
