ANKARA

The Kyrgyzstan Embassy in the Turkish capital inaugurated a park Saturday named after Kyrgyz author Chinghiz Aitmatov.

"I am overjoyed that the Aitmatov park and statue in central Türkiye has finally opened. Such activities demonstrate our Turkish brothers' admiration for our great writer," Ambassador Kubanicbek Omuraliyev said during a speech.

"Every culture has its own famous writers and poets. The authors' writings are sources that describe the character, history, customs, language, country, and land of the people to whom they belong. Cengiz Aytmatov is a national descriptor who provides insight into the inner lives of not only the Kyrgyz, but also all peoples who speak Turkish," he added.

Ankara's Cankaya district Mayor Alper Tasdelen said Kyrgyz seek unity, togetherness and brotherhood because their longing is to live in brotherhood, like a forest, under the same homeland and flag.

The ambassador and the mayor were presented gifts after their speeches and took pictures with locals in front of the statue of Aitmatov.
