Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Friday dismissed media reports claiming a Russian link to a drone that approached the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and was disrupted by Swedish forces, calling them "absurd."

Peskov said at a press briefing in Moscow that he has not seen any reports or received detailed information about the Thursday incident in the southern city of Malmo, according to state news agency Tass.

"If the way you are conveying the wording (of media reports) is accurate—in the sense that because there was a Russian vessel nearby, it means the drone was Russian—then that is a rather absurd statement," Peskov told reporters.

"But once again, I repeat: I do not know the details," he continued.

Swedish public broadcaster SVT reported on Thursday that the unmanned aerial vehicle took off from a nearby Russian vessel and flew toward the carrier before being identified by the Swedish Armed Forces.

According to a French broadcaster BFMTV, the drone was detected and intercepted about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the port of Malmo, where the warship was making a stop as part of its North Atlantic deployment.
