Anadolu Agency further expanded its global reach and influence on Monday by signing a partnership renewal agreement with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), increasing the areas of cooperation between the two prominent agencies.

A delegation from Anadolu Agency, led by Deputy Director General Mustafa Ozkaya, flew in from Turkey to sign the news exchange agreement with PNA, which was previously signed in 1997.

After thanking the PNA directors for their hospitality, Ozkaya said he is glad to "renew the cooperation agreement with PNA, the main and most important news source of the Republic of the Philippines".

"I believe that with this agreement, we will contribute to Turkey-Philippines relations by sharing fast, reliable and impartial news about our countries," Ozkaya said.

He added that the Anadolu Agency will cover the news stories in the Philippines in 13 languages for its global clients.

According to Ozkaya, the agreement will also help the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) reach its goals as both agencies are members of the organization, which was formed in 1991 "to secure direct and free exchange of news between the news agencies of a region inhabited by more than one half of the world's population."

The agreement will allow news, photos and images to be shared between Anadolu Agency and PNA.

News and Information Bureau Director Virginia Arcilla-Agtay signed the agreement on behalf of PNA. Anadolu Agency's Marketing and Corporate Communications Director Yilmaz Yaman and Turkey's Ambassador to Philippines Artemiz Sumer were also present at the signing ceremony.

“We take great pride in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations this year. I believe that this important agreement signed today will contribute greatly to the development of our economic, cultural and tourism relations," said Sumer.

"Founded in 1920 as an International Turkish News Agency, Anadolu Agency has been successfully presenting accurate and current news in 13 different languages in the world's leading regions,’ Sumer added.

PNA directors praised Anadolu Agency's long history in the profession of journalism.

Arcilla-Agtay said Anadolu Agency is PNA’s “grandfather” in the world’s journalism industry and expressed hope to continue establishing stronger ties with Turkey.
