Accidental explosion kills 9, injures 27 at police station in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir Security forces near the site of explosion in Nowgam area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, An Indian news agency reported that a powerful blast rocked South Srinagar's Nowgam police station, igniting a massive fire and causing major damage. Vehicles burned, the building suffered heavily, and casualties are feared as officials assess the scene.

Nine people were killed and 27 injured in an accidental explosion at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Saturday.

The blast late Friday, triggered by the unstable nature of chemicals, occurred while authorities were extracting samples from a large cache of confiscated explosives, according to the Press Trust of India.

Among the dead were three members of the Forensic Science Laboratory, two officials from the Revenue Department, two police photographers, one officer from the State Investigation Agency and a tailor.

The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.
