Russia said on Sunday that one person was killed and another injured in Ukrainian forces shelling on a village in the country’s border region of Kursk.

“Today, the village of Kulbaki, Glushkovsky district, was shelled by the Ukrainian side (forces). As a result of a direct hit from a shell, a residential building caught fire, and a resident died,” Kursk Governor Roman Starovoyt said on Telegram.

The deceased woman's husband suffered severe burns, Starovoyt said, adding that he is now receiving medical care.

“Another home was also damaged. There is partially no light in the village. Fire brigades rushed to the scene of the fire,” Starovoyt added.

Later, in a separate statement, he said the country's air defenses shot down a Ukrainian drone over the region, which then fell and caught fire on the grounds of an oil depot.

He added that firefighters and emergency services are working on the incident’s site.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the reports.

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged accusations over airstrikes against each other that have intensified since December last year.
