TURKISH SCULPTORS TO MAKE HECTOR'S SCULPTURE IN ANCIENT TROJAN CITY

A group of Turkish sculptors will construct the sculpture of Hector, one of the heroes in the Trojan War, in Intepe hamlet of the Aegean province of Canakkale, mayor told AA correspondent on Thursday.
Canakkale is a Turkish city where the Trojan War took place.
Intepe's Mayor Alaaddin Ozkurnaz said sculptors began constructing Hector's sculpture on July 8.
"The sculpture will be completed within a month," Ozkurnaz said.
Ozkurnaz said they thought of placing the sculpture in Intepe town, and it would be visible from vehicles passing through Izmir-Canakkale highway.
The marble sculpture will be in three-meters height, but it will almost be a 5-meter-high sculpture along with its base.
In Greek mythology, Hector is a Trojan prince and the greatest fighter for Troy in the Trojan War. He is the son of Priam and Hecuba, a descendant of Dardanus, who lived under Mount Ida, and of Tros, the founder of Troy. He acts as leader of the Trojans and their allies in the defense of Troy.
The Trojan War was waged against the city of Troy by the Achaeans after Paris of Troy stole Helen from her husband Menelaus, the king of Sparta. The war is among the most important events in Greek mythology, and was narrated in many works of Greek literature, including the Iliad and the Odyssey by Homer.
