TURKISH FILM WINS AWARD IN NETHERLANDS
ANKARA - A Turkish film won the best film title in a Dutch festival. "Sonbahar" (Autumn), a film by Turkish director Ozcan Alper, was chosen the best film at the 31st Noordelijk Film Festival in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.

The film received the top prize, Matad'or, and 10,000 Euro award at the end of the festival that took place between November 11 and 15.
The first and second long films of directors from several European countries competed in the festival.
Alper's first feature film, Sonbahar, was shot in 2008. In this film, a man struggles after his release from ten years as a political prisoner.
Ozcan Alper was born in 1975 in a small town of Artvin in northeastern Turkey. He studied Physics at Istanbul University. Later he transferred his degree to History of Science at the same university. In the meantime he grew interest in cinema and started to work in alternative cinema groups. In 1999 he started his professional career in filmmaking and he worked in several films and TV serials as assistant director and production staff. His first short film Momi (Grandmother) received several awards .It was the first film ever shot in the Hemsin language (a dialect spoken in the northeastern Turkey).
