Turkey has condemned the failed assassination attempt in Egypt that targeted the interim government's Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim on Thursday.
"We condemn the attack that took place near Egypt Interim Government Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim and that intends to overshadow the democratic demands for rights in the country," the statement issued on Friday says.
It offers Turkey's condolences for the deceased, and adds, "We hereby reiterate our wish for an immediate return to democracy in Egypt, and reaffirm Turkey's support for Egypt's democratization process."
On Thursday morning, Ibrahim survived an assassination attempt when at least one explosive charge went off under his car as he left his home.
The Health Ministry said one police officer was killed and 21 people – ten of them policemen – were injured in the attack, which has not been claimed by any individuals or groups.
