Rumi to be commemorated

The annual Sheb-i Arus ceremony will take place in Konya on Saturday to commemorate Mevlana Jalal al-Din Rumi who passed away 738 years ago.***

Commemoration ceremonies have also taken place in several provinces in the country.
Each year, on the 17th of December, the Mevlevi Order offers a special Sema (dance of the Whirling Dervishes) to celebrate Mevlana Jalal al-Din Rumi's "Sheb-i Arus" or "Wedding Night (Vuslat)". On this traditional night, the Mevlevi Order, the Whirling Dervishes, and the many lovers of Mevlana celebrate and remember his reunion with his Beloved.
