Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said, "it is evident that Israel has never abided by decisions made by the UN Security Council. Israel acts like a spoiled child. However, the raid in the international waters on May 31, 2010 is against all law rules. Actually it is a casus belli."
In a televised interview with the Al-Jazeera, Prime Minister Erdogan said, "we have taken five initial steps under five titles. Israel will see that it cannot get away with this. It is evident that Israel has never abided by decisions made by the UN Security Council. Israel acts like a spoiled child. However, the raid in the international waters on May 31, 2010 is against all law rules. Actually it is a casus belli. We have been patient so far."
"Israeli helicopters and ships surrounded the aid flotilla carrying people from 33 countries on their way to Gaza. Nine Turkish people were killed when Israeli forces raided the ship. All these are unacceptable. Geneva established a human rights inquiry committee which defined Israel and the raid as villainous. The UN Security Council also made a similar decision. In the face of all these, Israel still insists on not apologizing to Turkey, not paying compensation to relatives of the victims, and not lifting embargoes on Gaza. Israel has destroyed its relations with Turkey for its own political purposes. But as a result, Israel has isolated itself from the rest of the world. Now, the Western world has a different point of view about Israel," he said.
"First of all, Turkey has downgraded its diplomatic relations with Israel to the level of second secretary. Secondly, Turkey has frozen its commercial relations with Israel in defense industry. Israel is not honest at all. It does not have commercial ethics. It failed to send unmanned aerial vehicles back to Turkey after carrying out their maintenance. Thirdly, we are going to see Turkish ships and naval ships in the international waters in the East Mediterranean more often. And we are going to extend the full legal support to our brothers in Gaza. We are going to take their cause to the International Court of Justice in The Hague," he said.
"Israel will realize the fact that occupation and threats will not serve anything. It should withdraw from Palestinian territories. Israeli people have also begun questioning all these. Some 450 thousand Israeli people took to the streets. It means that they were also uneasy about this process. Because Turkey is an important country in the region and Israel is losing it," he said.
When asked whether he would proceed to Gaza during his travel to Egypt, Erdogan said, "we are not in favor of unnecessary tension. We are talking about it with Egyptian authorities. If we can reach a consensus, yes, I will visit Gaza. I know that our brothers and sisters in Gaza are waiting for us. I will go to Gaza one day sooner or later."
